Traded by the Florida Marlins to the Texas Rangers for Ryan Dempster and a player to be named later (RicK Helling) on Aug. 8, 1996 ... Had an up-and-down stint with Florida, losing five of his first six decision, then winning five of eight with a 2.89 ERA, before dropping his final two decisions ... Tossed a career-best two-hitter on Apr. 12 at Los Angeles ... Won five of his seven decisions with Texas after the trade ... His first outing for Texas was a complete game shutout vs. Toronto on Aug. 10 ... Did not allow a run in his first 13 innings with Texas ... Enjoyed a great year with Shreveport, leading the Texas League in innings pitched and tying for the lead in wins with 14 ... Finished second in the league with six complete games, fourth in strikeouts (126), and sixth in ERA (3.34) ... Received September call-up and made his major league debut Sept. 15 vs. San Diego.
