Ranked second in the AL in batting average against (.216) ... Became the first left-hander ever to strike out Wade Boggs three times in a game, May 1 at Boston ... Threw first no-hitter in Mariners' history June 2 vs. Detroit ... In his next outing vs. Chicago June 7, he retired the last 20 batters in a row and struck out 10 in a 2-1 complete-game victory ... Went 5-0, 2.40 ERA in June and was selected AL Pitcher of the Month ... Was 9-3, 3.68 ERA at the All-Star break ... Was selected to the AL All-Star team, but did not play.

1989
Began the season with Montreal, posting a 0-4 mark with a 6.67 ERA in seven games ... Optioned to Class AAA Indianapolis May 9 ... Traded by the Montreal Expos with Brian Holman and Gene Harris to the Seattle Mariners for Mark Langston and Mike Campbell on May 25, 1989 ... Made debut with the Mariners May 30 at Yankee Stadium, where he earned the win in a 3-2 victory.

1988
Posted an 8-7 and a 3.26 ERA for Indianapolis ... Missed more than a month of the season with a hairline fracture in his right hand ... Named the No. 3 major league prospect by Baseball America ...
