Named the National League Player of the Week May 12-18.

1996
His 40 homers were a career-high, good for fifth in the National League and was the 12th 40-plus HR-season in Cubs history ... Season was finished after getting hit by a Mark Hutton (Marlins) pitch Aug. 20 at Wrigley with the bases loaded ... Ironically, that was his 100th RBI of the season ... Underwent surgery Aug. 26 to remove the fractured pisiforme bone in his right hand ... Hit a two out, thee-run HR in the bottom of the ninth inning (off Paul Wilson) on May 3 to defeat the New York Mets 4-2 ... Hit two home runs in the same inning on May 16 vs. Houston, the first Cubs player ever to accomplish the feat.

Became the first player in the 20th century to lead the Cubs in homers and steals in three consecutive campaigns, with his team-leading 36 homers and 34 steals ... Tied for second in the National League in homers ... Finished second in RBI and seventh in stolen bases ... Went to the All-Star game for the first time ... Over a 14-game stretch August 10 - August 24, he had nine homers and 27 RBI ... Was twice named the NL's Player of the Week.

Continued his power surge belting 25 homers in just 105 games while hitting a career-high .300 up until this point ... Became the first Cub since Billy Buckner in 1981 to lead the club in average, homers, and RBI ... Was ninth in the NL in homers ... Hit one homer every 17 at-bats, the ninth-best ratio in the league ... Became the first player to clear the 30-foot high screen at Mile High Stadium with a 461-foot blast off Colorado's Mike Munoz ... Hit triples in four consecutive games from May 14-17 ... Became the first player in Cubs history to record more than 30 homers and stolen bases in a season ... His 36 steals were the most by a Cub since 1985 (Ryan Sandberg 54, Davey Lopes 47), and his 33 homers were the most by a Cub since 1990 (Sandberg 40) ... Was ninth in the National League in homers and total bases (290) and tied for ninth with 63 extra-base hits ... Had five two-homer games ... Drove in five runs in three contests, including May 4 when he was 5-for-6 with two homers ... Became the 110th player in major league history to record six hits in a game, going 6-for-6 against Colorado July 2 ... Hit safely in his final three at-bats June 30 at San Diego, giving him a team-record nine consecutive hits June 30-July 2 ... Had a career-high 17 assists, second in the NL and the most by a Cub outfielder since Lou Brock had 17 in 1963.

Traded by the Chicago White Sox with Ken Patterson to the Chicago Cubs for George Bell on March 30, 1992 ... Limited to 67 games in his first season with the Cubs by two extended stints on the disabled list ... Hit four homers in a 10-game span May 31-June 10 ... Was on the DL June 13- July 27, and homered off Pittsburgh's Doug Drabek on the first pitch thrown him upon ... Went 15-for-39 (.385) with three homers and nine RBI in the nine games after his return ... Fouled a pitch off his left ankle in the 10th game after his return, fracturing it and putting him on the DL for the rest of the season.

1991
Struggled during his final season with the White Sox, batting .203 in 116 games ... Hit two homers and drove in five runs on Opening Day at Baltimore ... Spent July 19-Aug. 27 at Class AAA Vancouver (B.C.).

Was the only American League player to reach double figures in doubles, triples, homers and steals ... Ranked seventh in the league with 32 stolen bases ... Ranked second among outfielders with 14 assists.

1989
Made his major-league debut for Texas June 16 against New York, batting 2-for-4 with his first hit coming against Andy Hawkins ... Hit his first home run June 21 off Roger Clemens of Boston ...Traded to the Chicago White Sox July 29 while at Class AAA Oklahoma City (Okla.) and was assigned to AAA Vancouver (B.C.) ... Went 3-for-3 with a homer, two RBI and two runs scored in his White Sox debut Aug. 22 ... Hit 10 home runs in 316 at-bats with Chicago.
