Mariners activate SS Ketel Marte after bout with mono

The Seattle Mariners activated Ketel Marte off the disabled list Tuesday after the shortstop recovered from a bout of mononucleosis, the team announced.

He batted ninth in the Mariners' 6-5 victory over the Tigers on Tuesday night and went 0-for-5 in the 15-inning contest.

"We're going to try not to run him out there eight, nine, 10 consecutive days," Mariners manager Scott Servais said. "He's going to play a couple, get a day off and keep him fresh and sharp here as we go down the stretch."

Infielder Mike Freeman was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma.
