With the Washington Nationals wrapping up the 2019 World Series with a Game 7 win over the Houston Astros, the MLB offseason is about to start picking up steam. When does free agency start? What is the deadline for accepting qualifying offers? What's next for big free agents like Gerrit Cole and Anthony Rendon?

Key free agency dates and information

Oct. 31: One day after the World Series, players can file for free agency. For the first five days after the World Series, teams can only negotiate with their own free agents.

Nov. 4: Opt-out deadline and the start of free agency. This is the deadline for teams to extend qualifying offers to their FAs, and also the deadline for players/teams to opt out of deals (JD Martinez/Stephen Strasburg). Once the deadline passes, non-contracted players are free to sign on Nov. 4 at 5 p.m.

Nov. 14: Fifteen days after the World Series, the deadline for players to accept qualifying offers or decline them and head to free agency.

Dec. 2: Teams must tender contracts to all players; non-tendered players join the free-agent pool.
