CLEVELAND -- Indians manager Manny Acta says pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez plans to drop the appeal of his five-game suspension after his season debut.
Jimenez was suspended for intentionally throwing at Colorado All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki in his final start of spring training last Sunday. Jimenez drilled his former teammate in the elbow, escalating a running feud the two had all spring.
Before Jimenez started against Toronto on Saturday, Acta said the Indians want to take advantage of an upcoming off day so the right-hander, acquired last season in a blockbuster trade from the Rockies, won't have to miss his turn in the rotation.
Jimenez took a no-hit bid in the seventh inning on Saturday, but the Blue Jays rallied for the second straight game against Cleveland's bullpen en route to a 7-4 win in 12 innings. He allowed one hit in seven innings and performed beyond expectations after a shaky spring training.
"Winning games is all about pitching," Jimenez said. "That's a good sign for the team."
