Rockies designate Eric Young Jr.

DENVER -- Eric Young Jr. has been designated for assignment by the Colorado Rockies, making room on the roster for the recall of right-handed reliever Chris Volstad from the team's Triple-A affiliate in Colorado Springs.

Volstad was in uniform and available for Wednesday night's game against Washington.

Young, an outfielder and a leadoff man, appeared in 57 games this season and batted .242 with one home run, six RBIs and eight stolen bases.

Volstad is in his second stint with the Rockies this season. He made the team out of spring training as a reliever, appearing in four games and posting an 8.53 ERA in 6 1-3 innings. He was optioned to Colorado Springs in mid-April.
