The Cardinals announced that Hall of Fame manager Whitey Herzong, 87, suffered a minor stroke on Monday during his charity golf tournament. According to the team's statement, Herzon reports that has received treatment and is "doing well." Not the usual ballpark sight: The Cardinals have a garden going on the perimeter of the upper concourse at Busch Stadium. Among its uses is to supply fresh herbs for the chefs at the stadium.

That flock of Cardinals out there in center field is the team gathering for their annual photo. Wonder if they sign each other's yearbook?

Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez rejoined the team Monday. He was hospitalized after Saturday's game against the Brewers to deal with respiratory issues that were determined to be a product of allergies and asthma. He says he's ready to pitch in Monday's series opener against Washington. But he's yet to discuss the matter with St. Louis manager Mike Shildt.

Nationals manager Dave Martinez remained in Washington, D.C., to undergo precautionary medical testing, according to a team statement. That's all we know right now. Martinez took ill during Washington's game against Atlanta on Sunday and left the ballpark early. Chip Hale will manage Washington at the outset of their big three-game series in St. Louis beginning Monday.
