FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Former major league third baseman Corey Koskie will play for Canada in the World Baseball Classic.
Koskie confirmed his participation in the WBC on Monday. He has been working out in Fort Myers with the Minnesota Twins, the team he played for from 1999-2004.
Koskie's career was derailed by post-concussion problems. He hasn't played in a big league game since July 5, 2006, when he fell on his head trying to catch a popup with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Canada's first game in the WBC is March 7 against the United States in Toronto. The 35-year-old Koskie will report to Team Canada's training camp Saturday in Dunedin.
Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said he's excited for Koskie.
"I'm sure that puts a smile on his face, as does for everyone else who wants to see him play," Gardenhire said.
