Kyoji Horiguchi is out of the Rizin main event on Dec. 31, the promotion announced Thursday. He was scheduled to defend his Rizin bantamweight title against Kai Asakura. Horiguchi tore his ACL, damaged his meniscus and has already had surgery, sources said. It's expected to be a lengthy recovery for Horiguchi, who is also the Bellator bantamweight champ. Rizin plans on announcing its new main event next week.
Neiman Gracie vs. Kiichi Kunimoto has been added to Bellator 236 on Dec. 21 in Honolulu, promotion officials told ESPN. Gracie, nephew of Renzo Gracie, is coming off the first loss of his pro MMA career, to Rory MacDonald in the semifinals of the Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix in June. Kunimoto had a two-fight winning streak snapped by Ed Ruth in July.
After getting KO'd by Derrick Lewis in a fight he was winning in October 2018, Alexander Volkov fought cautiously -- or, as his translator said, "mathematically" -- so as not to get caught by Greg Hardy. Not a stirring performance, but Volkov won and Hardy got to measure himself against a Top 10 heavyweight.
