Irene Aldana is the biggest favorite on the card (-650) and is looking the part, peppering Vanessa Melo throughout the first round with overhand rights to the head, left hooks to the body, kicks to the legs. Melo seriously slows down in the round's last few seconds.
Next up in this Mexico vs. the World portion of the card is a women’s bantamweight bout between Irene Aldana, who fights out of Guadalajara, and late replacement opponent Vanessa Melo. Aldana (10-5) has won three of her last four, while the Brazilian, also 10-5 and winner of five in a row, is making her UFC debut.
The end comes at 1:31 of Round 2, as Steven Peterson (19-9), who fights out of Dallas, gets the flashy finish to break out of a two-fight losing streak. It is a back-and-forth (mostly) standup battle, with Martin Bravo (11-3) leading the dance early. But in the end the Mexican remains winless in his three UFC outings.
