Scottish lightweight Stevie Ray has announced his retirement from mixed martial arts. Ray finishes with a record of 25-13. His stock rose between 2015 and 2017 when he went 5-1 in the UFC, but losses and injuries led to him leaving the UFC and a three-year period of inactivity. He made a strong comeback in PFL in 2022 with back-to-back wins over Anthony Pettis, but went 0-2 in this 2023 regular season.
Two fighters missed weight Friday morning at the official UFC Jacksonville weigh-ins. Kleydson Rodrigues came in at 129 pounds, three pounds over the non-title flyweight limit for a scheduled bout with Tatsuro Taira. Loik Radzhabov was 1.25 pounds over the non-title lightweight limit, coming in at 157.25 for a bout that will proceed against Mateusz Rebecki.
Aaron Pico will take on Pedro Carvalho in a featherweight contender fight at Bellator 299 on Sept. 23 in Dublin, the promotion announced Tuesday. Pico, still just 26 years old, has won seven of his last eight fights with the lone loss coming via injury. Carvalho, an SBG Ireland product, is 2-2 in his last four fights. Bellator 299 is headlined by a middleweight title fight between champion Johnny Eblen and challenger Fabian Edwards.
