Michael Chandler-David Rickels rematch set for Bellator 145

A rematch between former Bellator MMA lightweight champion Michael Chandler and David Rickels has been made official for Nov. 6 at Scottrade Center in St. Louis.

Bellator officials announced the 155-pound matchup on Tuesday. The bout will take place on the main portion of a Spike TV-televised Bellator 145 event, which is headlined by two title fights.

Chandler (13-3) made quick work of Rickels in their initial meeting, knocking him out in just 44 seconds to record his second title defense. The 29-year-old hit a rough patch after that win, dropping his next three fights. He surrendered the title in a split decision loss to Eddie Alvarez later that year and then suffered back-to-back losses to current lightweight kingpin Will Brooks in 2014.

Now fighting out of Power MMA in Gilbert, Arizona, Chandler is coming off a first-round submission victory against Derek Campos in July.

Rickels (16-3) has campaigned heavily for the Chandler rematch. He is officially 2-1 since that loss. His last bout against John Alessio in June was ruled a no-contest, after Alessio was unable to continue after eating an illegal knee. Rickels had dominated the fight up to that point.

A featherweight title fight between Patricio Freire (24-2) and Daniel Straus (23-6) will headline Bellator 145. A lightweight championship featuring Brooks (16-1) against Marcin Held (21-3) will serve as the co-main.
