Khabib Nurmagomedov withdraws from Tony Ferguson bout

Undefeated UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov has been forced to withdraw from a high-profile bout against Tony Ferguson on Dec. 11 due to a broken rib, the Russian fighter announced via social media late Thursday evening.

"I want to apologize to my fans," Nurmagomedov wrote. "I broke my rib and again I am out of the fight. I really wanted to come back. I'm not sure if I will ever come back."

The fight was scheduled to co-headline the TUF 22 Finale in Las Vegas. UFC officials have not announced a replacement.

It is yet another setback for Nurmagomedov (22-0), who hasn't fought since April 2014 due to injury. He was scheduled to fight title challenger Donald Cerrone earlier this year but was forced to withdraw with a knee injury.

Fighting out of Fight Spirit Team and American Kickboxing Academy, Nurmagomedov picked up his last win against Rafael dos Anjos, the current UFC lightweight champion. Nurmagomedov is 6-0 in the UFC.

A nontitle featherweight bout between Frankie Edgar (19-4-1) and Chad Mendes (17-3) is scheduled to headline the TUF 22 Finale.
