Holly Holm to face Valentina Shevchenko on July 23

Holly Holm's path to reclaim the UFC bantamweight title will begin July 23.

Officials announced Sunday that Holm will face Peruvian bantamweight Valentina Shevchenko this summer in Chicago. The 135-pound bout at United Center will headline UFC on Fox.

Holm (10-1) will look to rebound off the first loss of her professional mixed martial arts career. She surrendered the UFC title in March to Miesha Tate in a fifth-round submission loss.

A former boxing world champion, Holm campaigned for an immediate rematch against Tate, but the UFC opted to go in another direction. Tate will seek her first title defense against Amanda Nunes at UFC 200 on July 9.

Holm, who fights out of Jackson-Wink MMA in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is 3-1 in the UFC. She won the title in November in a stunning second-round knockout against former champion Ronda Rousey. Rousey has not fought since the loss.

Shevchenko (12-2) is 1-1 in the UFC and coming off a decision loss to Nunes in March. She is a former Muay Thai champion.

The July 23 card also features a light heavyweight bout between Anthony Johnson (21-5) and Glover Teixeira (25-4), as well as a lightweight contest featuring Gilbert Melendez (22-5) and Edson Barboza (17-4).
