WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - - -- Some of the top players in Little League don't swing a bat or wear a glove.

They coach, cheer, coordinate or just generally promote the ideals of Little League.

Yesterday, the Kiwanis Club in Williamsport, Pennsylvania -- where the Little League World Series was held -- honored the people who have received awards this year from the Little League organization.

Among the honorees -- Little League Mom of the Year, Brenda Hopper of Coventry, Rhode Island.

Her ten-year-old son Doug nominated her saying that even though she's fighting cancer, she goes to all his games and practices and volunteers at the teams concession stand.

Also honored were:
  • Little League Parents of the Year: Dorothy and Charles Jeter, parents of Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees.

  • Little League 's Good Sport Award went to 12-year-old Caitlin Neeson of Florida.

  • The 'Challenger' award went to Jake Hardison for his work in Virginia for his work with mentally and physically handicapped youngsters.
