The price of moving up in the NBA draft has been established. And it's expensive.
Two sources told ESPN.com that the Portland Trail Blazers paid the Golden State Warriors $2 million to move up 10 places when the teams made a trade Monday exchanging the 34th and 44th picks in the second round of Thursday's NBA draft.
Numerous teams, especially the teams that have cleared salary space, are interested in buying up second-round picks to fill empty roster spots.
The price tag attached to Monday's Blazers-Warriors deal sets a bit of an economic precedent, showing the price is going to be high.
There are numerous teams with multiple second-round picks, including the Minnesota Timberwolves, Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns.
Phoenix and Los Angeles have large luxury-tax bills, and this Portland-Golden State trade has established a market value for spare picks that can help pay those bills.
Golden State also has the sixth pick in the first round. Portland has the 22nd pick in the first round.
