KAUNAS, Lithuania -- Arvydas Sabonis, longtime center for the Portland Trail Blazers and now a free agent, is recovering from broken toes he received while vacationing in his homeland.

Sabonis fractured two small toes on his right foot, Dr. Skirmantas Paukstys said Friday. He said the injury Wednesday wasn't serious and that no cast place on his foot.

"Sabonis will be OK in no time," Paukstys said. "His recovery shouldn't take longer than four weeks."

Sabonis had a similar injury several years ago while playing soccer on a Lithuanian beach. Doctors declined to say how the mishap this week occurred.

Portland wants to re-sign the 36-year-old Sabonis, who has indicated he will retire if he can't reach agreement with the Blazers.
