Dampier hyperextended knee on Wednesday

Associated Press

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Golden State Warriors center Erick Dampier will miss at least two games with a hyperextended left knee.

It's the first significant injury of the season for the Warriors, who led the NBA in man-games lost to injury each of the past two seasons.

Dampier is in the midst of a resurgence after missing 99 games the past two years with injuries. He's averaged 9.8 points and 5.6 rebounds while also leading the Warriors with 65 blocked shots.

He was hurt in the third quarter of Golden State's 101-88 victory over Detroit on Wednesday night, and he had an MRI exam on Thursday. Dampier will miss the Warriors' games against Seattle on Friday and at Denver on Saturday before the team evaluates his knee again.

Forward Danny Fortson left practice on Thursday with a mildly sprained ankle, but he's expected to play against Seattle.
