NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- An electrical fire damaged former NBA rebounding star Dennis Rodman's restaurant and dance club, but no injuries were reported, police said Monday. The damage will force an indefinite closure of Josh Slocum's, police said. The fire was reported about 2 p.m. Sunday and was quickly doused by city firefighters, said Sgt. Scott McKnight. A call to the Fire Department was answered by a recording that said the administrative offices were closed. "The fire was not of a suspicious nature,'' McKnight said. "It was investigated and the origin of the fire was determined to be electrical.'' Calls to Josh Slocum's early Monday rang unanswered. Police did not know whether the club was open at the time of the fire. The 40-year-old Rodman co-owns the hot spot on Pacific Coast Highway and was even arrested in January for investigation of obstructing and delaying police looking into a possible code violation at Josh Slocum's. Prosecutors did not press charges. Rodman allegedly violated a Business and Profession Code, which bans alcohol beverage service after 2 a.m. Rodman, the former Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers forward, has a seaside home near the eatery. Rodman was waived by the Lakers in April 1999, after a string of tardiness and other problems. Since then, police have responded to Rodman's beachfront home more than 70 times due to complaints over loud parties. He also has been convicted of misdemeanor drunken driving. Rodman also has faced allegations of sexual harassment and assault.
