MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Timberwolves guard Wally Szczerbiak is expected to be sidelined for up to 14 days with a dislocated little left toe, team officials said Wednesday.
Szczerbiak injured the toe during Tuesday night's exhibition game against the Milwaukee Bucks in Fargo, N.D. "It's just a freaky thing. I just kind of jammed my foot into the side of my shoe," Szczerbiak told the St. Paul Pioneer Press on Wednesday. "I was worried about it, because it kind of felt funny when I was running up and down the floor. "But right now it's just swollen up, and it's really tight. So just a lot of ice, treatment and elevation is the key, I think." His toe was the latest in a history of preseason injuries. Szczerbiak dislocated a finger in last year's preseason opener and took stitches in his first game as a rookie. Szczerbiak joins point guard Terrell Brandon (knee) and forward Joe Smith (groin) on the sideline. The Timberwolves host the Denver Nuggets in their Oct. 30 season opener at Target Center. |
