SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento Kings guard Mike Bibby had surgery on his fractured right foot Saturday. He is expected to be sidelined 6-to-8 weeks. "I think I will be back in less than six weeks,'' Bibby said, his foot in a cast. "I have strong bones. I'm a quick healer.'' Bibby, injured during practice Friday, signed a seven-year, $80 million contract during the offseason. In five NBA seasons, he has missed just two of 296 regular-season games -- both last year. "If it was going to happen, it might as well be now,'' said Bibby, who averaged 20.3 points and was a clutch performer in last season's playoff run. Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie says the team has no plans to bring in another player. Backup point guard Bobby Jackson will become the starter, while versatile Hedo Turkoglu and starting shooting guard Doug Christie will take turns filling in for Bibby. Mateen Cleaves and Brent Price, both backup point guards a year ago who saw little action, are rehabbing injuries right now. |
