Associated Press

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah guard Mark Jackson became the third NBA player to reach 10,000 career assists Wednesday night in the Jazz's game against the Phoenix Suns.

Jackson joined career assists leader and teammate John Stockton and Magic Johnson as the only players to reach the milestone. He needed three entering the game and got his third with about one minute left in the third quarter with a pass to Matt Harpring, who hit a 15-foot jumper that got the Jazz to 76-73.

During the next stoppage, Jackson received a standing ovation from the Delta Center crowd as he stood at midcourt. He held his fist up high, then jogged over to the Jazz bench where he was congratulated by his teammates.

Jackson should catch Johnson's total of 10,141 before the season is over. He'll never surpass Stockton, who had 15,425 entering Wednesday.

Jackson, who is with his sixth NBA team, moved to No. 3 on the all-time assists list on Nov. 19 with four assists in a win over the Suns.
