Team continues show of support in form of scholarship

Associated Press

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Memphis Grizzlies established a scholarship fund in memory of starting center Lorenzen Wright's 11-month-old daughter Sierra, who died Saturday morning.

The Sierra Simone Wright Scholarship Fund will grant an annual scholarship to a Memphis area high school senior who plans to attend a Memphis area college, the Grizzlies announced Monday. The team has encouraged donations from the public.

Wright's wife, Sherra, checked on Sierra in her crib at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday and discovered the baby was not breathing. Sierra, the youngest of the couple's five children, was rushed to a hospital but doctors were not able to revive her.

The team wore armbands with Wright's No. 42 on them in the game against Dallas on Saturday and will continue to wear them as a show of support, the team said.

The Grizzlies asked for a moment of silence before Monday night's game against Boston.
