Clippers' Olowokandi sidelined from knee surgery

Associated Press

LOS ANGELES -- Clippers center Michael Olowokandi won't return this season, already sidelined since left knee surgery in February.

The team made official Monday what many around the organization had assumed for months.

The Clippers (24-52), last in the Pacific Division and out of playoff contention, have six games left.

"The medical consensus is that Michael is still at least four-to-six weeks from being able to run, so it's obvious that he won't be able to come back,'' general manager Elgin Baylor said.

Olowokandi will become an unrestricted free agent July 1. He has expressed an interest in re-signing with the Clippers, who will miss the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season.

His averages of 12.3 points and 9.1 rebounds in 36 games this season were career highs.
