Pistons have second pick, will keep 25th

Associated Press

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- The Detroit Pistons will keep the 25th overall pick in the NBA draft after reaching an agreement Tuesday with the Sacramento Kings.

The Pistons also own the second overall choice, previously acquired from Memphis.

Detroit owed the Kings a future first-round pick, and Sacramento owed the Pistons a future No. 1 pick. Both teams decided to call it even with their latest transaction.

"This allows us to keep our pick in this year's draft and relieves us of our obligation to Sacramento of a future first-round pick," Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars said.

The pick Detroit was to give the Kings had passed through a handful of teams.

Sacramento owed the Pistons one of its first-round picks before 2008 to finalize the trade that sent Jon Barry to Detroit for Mateen Cleaves.

"This gives us all of our flexibility back with regards to our first-round draft selections going forward," Kings president of basketball operations Geoff Petrie said.
