Webber expected to use crutches for eight weeks

Associated Press

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento Kings forward Chris Webber had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Tuesday in Birmingham, Ala.

Dr. James Andrews also performed arthroscopic surgery on the left shoulder of Kings swingman Gerald Wallace, the team said.

Webber tore the meniscus in his knee in Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals against Dallas and missed the rest of the playoffs.

Andrews said Webber will have to use crutches for about eight weeks while undergoing rehabilitation and will only be able to participate in limited basketball activities until the start of the regular season.

Webber led the Kings to their second straight Pacific Division title with team-high averages of 23.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 5.4 assists.

Wallace had a decompression procedure on his shoulder to relieve chronic rotator cuff tendinitis. Andrews said he should be ready for training camp on Sept. 29.

Wallace averaged 4.7 points and 2.7 rebounds in 34 games this season.
