SAN ANTONIO -- Free-agent forward Robert Horry has signed a two-year contract worth $9.5 million with the San Antonio Spurs on Friday.
The Spurs hold a team option for the second year of the deal.
"Robert Horry is a proven winner. He doesn't care about personal accolades. His only concern is winning. There is a reason he has five championship rings,'' Spurs General Manager R.C. Buford said. "He does everything well. He can defend. He can run the floor. And -- as we all know -- he can hit big shots. We're excited to add a player with his skills, experience and leadership to our team.'' Horry, who spent the last 6½ seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers and helped them win three straight NBA championships, struggled last season, averaging 6.5 points and missing 36 of 38 3-pointers during the playoffs. His last 3-point miss, at the end of Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals against San Antonio, would have given the Lakers a victory and a lead in the series. Instead, the Lakers lost and the Spurs went on to win the NBA title. During Horry's 11-year NBA career, he has been on five NBA championship teams, including two with the Houston Rockets. Information from the Associated Press was used in this report. |
