14-year veteran Rice waived

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Clippers forward Glen Rice
was waived Friday as the team cleared room for forward Melvin Ely.

A 14-year veteran and former NBA All-Star Game MVP, Rice had
averaged just 3.7 points in 18 games this season, his first with
the Clippers. He was signed as a free agent after being traded
from Houston to Utah and waived by the Jazz.

Rice, 36, was placed on the injured list in both November and
December with right knee woes. The 1997 All-Star Game MVP has
career averages of 18.5 points and 4.4 rebounds.

Ely, one of two 2002 first-round picks by the Clippers, spent
the last 12 games on the injured list with influenza. He is
averaging 4.1 points and 3.3 rebounds in 18 games this season.
