Lakers' Cook has surgery, should be ready for camp

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Los Angeles Lakers forward Brian Cook had surgery on his right thumb but is expected to be ready for training camp, the team said Tuesday.

Cook hurt his thumb Monday while playing basketball at a gym in Los Angeles and underwent surgery that evening.

He played in 81 games for the Lakers last season, including 46 starts. He averaged 7.9 points and 3.4 rebounds.
