Gasol set to have surgery to repair broken foot bone

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Memphis Grizzlies forward Pau Gasol will have surgery Friday to repair a broken bone in his left foot.

Gasol fractured the fifth metatarsal in his left foot last week while playing for Spain during the FIBA world championships. He was scheduled for surgery in Memphis at the Campbell Clinic, the Grizzlies said Wednesday.

He is expected to be sidelined up to three months.

The Grizzlies start preseason play Oct. 10 at Houston, and their first regular-season game is Nov. 1 at home against New York.
