Mihm has screw removed from right heel, should miss 6 more weeks

MINNEAPOLIS -- Los Angeles Lakers center Chris Mihm underwent surgery Wednesday to remove a screw from his right heel.

His recovery time is expected to be about six weeks, the team said.

Mihm has been sidelined with right ankle problems for several weeks. He's averaged 4.1 points and 3.7 rebounds in 19 games this season.

Coach Phil Jackson, speaking before the team's game at Minnesota, said it's possible Mihm will be ready in time for the playoffs. Mihm missed all of last season while recovering from surgeries on his right ankle, which he injured badly two years ago to keep him out of the 2006 playoffs.

Jackson said he's hopeful the latest surgery will be the solution to keeping the 28-year-old Mihm healthy over the long-term.

"We're happy he's working toward another angle," Jackson said.
