Nuggets F McDyess to return from knee injury March 1

DENVER (Ticker) -- The Denver Nuggets have something to look forward to.

All-Star forward Antonio McDyess, the Nuggets' best player, revealed Tuesday that he will return to the active roster on March 1.

The 27-year-old McDyess had surgery to repair a partially torn patella tendon in his left knee on October 12 and has not played since. It was the first major injury for McDyess, who also underwent arthroscopic surgery that removed loose bodies from his right knee.

In McDyess' absence, the Nuggets have had another rough season, going 16-34 and are battling to stay out of the basement in the Western Conference.

"I'm so excited to get back on the court and help my teammates finish on a high note," McDyess said. "Our fans have been so patient this season and I want them to know how much I appreciate their loyalty."

"We are ecstatic about Antonio's progress and look forward to seeing him back on the court against Memphis," Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe said. "Obviously we are eagerly anticipating his return but his long-term health is our main priority. He is our franchise player."

The 6-9 McDyess averaged 20.8 points and 12.1 rebounds in 70 games last season, his sixth in the NBA. In the 2000 Olympics, he scored what may be the biggest basket in U.S. international basketball history as he followed a missed free throw with the Americans trailing Lithuania in the final minute.
