Brown says he wants to keep coaching Sixers

Associated Press

BOSTON -- Larry Brown said Friday night he will return for another season as head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers as long as team chairman Ed Snider will have him.

"If I'm healthy and Mr. Snider wants me, I feel pretty fortunate to have a great situation," Brown said after the 76ers were eliminated from the playoffs with a 120-87 loss to the Boston Celtics. "But it isn't up to me."

Brown led the Sixers to the NBA Finals last year before injuries helped drop them to sixth in the Eastern Conference this season. They lost all three games in Boston in the first round to lose the best-of-five series 3-2.

Although his contract runs through 2004-05, he has a history of changing jobs and has had a spotty relationship with Allen Iverson, the team's star.

Iverson said Friday that reports of their conflict were overblown and he had no problem with Brown returning.
