Rookie Gomes scores 18 in Celts win over Raptors
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) -- Paul Pierce scored 19 points and rookie
Ryan Gomes added 18 to lead the Boston Celtics to a 107-100 victory
over the Toronto Raptors in a preseason game Friday night.
Justin Reed scored a pair of baskets to give Boston a 104-100
lead with 26.1 seconds left in the game and then added a pair of
free throws with 20 seconds remaining. Mike James led Toronto with
20 points and Matt Bonner added 16 for the Raptors.
Toronto took a 32-17 lead with 2:04 left in the first quarter on
a 16-foot jumper by Chris Bosh. However, the Celtics cut the
deficit to 57-55 at the half after Raef LaFrentz sank a pair of
free throws with 5.9 seconds left in the second quarter.
Boston was without injured players Marcus Banks (left shin),
Tony Allen (right knee surgery), Al Jefferson (sprained left
ankle).
