Vlade Divac
Vlade Divac isn't worried by the Kings' lackluster start.

Like last season, the Kings have limped through November with injuries. But unlike last season, the Kings have played like they're shorthanded. Before they can beat L.A., head coach Rick Adelman has to win his fight against Sacramento's complacency first, according to ESPN.com's Marc Stein.

    COAST TO COAST
    Chris Webber
    Webber

Chris Webber called the University of Michigan's self-imposed punishments "hurtful," but he can't quibble with the school's timing. By announcing its attempt to basically forfeit the 1990s on Thursday -- the day after Webber got full-court pressed by the New York media before and following Sacramento's loss to the Knicks -- Webber was spared a full-scale inquisition at his locker to rival anything the courts have planned for him. On Wednesday, before anyone had heard about his alma mater's plan to yank down banners and invalidate victories, Webber got a few questions about his legal troubles but responded by saying he's not at liberty to discuss the matter. Beyond describing himself "at peace" and insisting that he's "very confident" of vindication when his case goes to trial, Webber saved his most newsworthy disclosure for the subject of the Summer Olympics in 2004. Webber, as with Kobe Bryant recently, said he hopes to represent his country after the Americans' humbling sixth-place finish at the World Championships in Indianapolis. But, as with Bryant, it's unclear whether Webber will make himself available next summer when the United States must qualify for the Olympics in a tournament at a location to be determined this month. In theory, USA Basketball wants players and coaches who will be ready to serve the next two summers. Click for more on East's early dominance, Hornets' new nest and Tim Duncan and Jason Kidd

    WHAT A SCOUT SAYS
"Everyone talks about the Spurs being one of the top three or four teams in the league, but I don't think they're as good as they were last year -- at least they're not there yet. Their strength is that they know what they have -- Tim Duncan -- and they always go to him. But they need scoring from Malik Rose and Tony Parker, or one of those two guys, if they want to win."

    SLAMS AND DUNKS
Tracy McGradyKevin Garnett is the only player in the league who has shown the ability to check the Year 6 McGrady and it's probably time for a new nickname ...

    STAT OF THE WEEK
Heard enough about low scoring and horrid shooting? Weak schedule or not, the Mavericks merit some positive reinforcement for their near-extinct fondness for actual offense. Through six games, they had posted a 30-point quarter 11 times in 24 tries. That's 46-percent of the time, with Orlando and Boston next closest with six 30-point quarters. Better yet, six of Dallas' quarters under 30 points were fourth quarters -- when the Mavs were invariably holding big leads and resting their studs. In its six first quarters so far, Dallas has scored 30 points a whopping five times.

    STAT OF THE WEAK
The East has been doing so well against the West that perhaps we have to view these things from a turned-around perspective. So ... West teams are only 3-10 so far against the Atlantic Division. And ... Seattle and Sacramento are 2-5 against the East, but 7-0 against their fellow West brethren. Scary, huh?

    MAILBAG
Vin BakerIs there any chance that the Celtics could pull a Trail Blazers move (as with Shawn Kemp) and buy out Vin Baker's contract?
There's no benefit for the Celtics to consider such a move unless Vin became such a divisive force in the locker room that he was hurting the team just by being there ...
