Nuggets interview Mike Malone for coaching job

The Denver Nuggets on Wednesday interviewed former Sacramento Kings coach Mike Malone for their coaching vacancy, according to league sources.

Sources told ESPN.com that Malone has joined Nuggets interim coach Melvin Hunt and former Suns, Knicks and Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni on the list of candidates known to be under strong consideration by Nuggets officials.

ESPN.com reported last month that the chances of Hunt retaining the job full time have improved in recent weeks, but D'Antoni and Malone formally met with the Nuggets this week as they begin to take their search to an advanced stage.

The Nuggets possess the league's last remaining coaching vacancy, after New Orleans (Alvin Gentry), Orlando (Scott Skiles) and Chicago (Fred Hoiberg) made their hires in recent days.
