Dorell Wright signs with Heat, is eligible for playoff roster

The Miami Heat signed forward Dorell Wright on Tuesday, the team announced.

He is with the team in Detroit, where the Heat will play the Pistons on Tuesday night.

Wright had been playing this season in China for the Chongqing Dragons of the Chinese Basketball Association, averaging 24.3 points and 7.5 rebounds in 37 games.

He is eligible for the playoffs under NBA rules because he hasn't been on another NBA's team's roster after March 1.

Wright, 30, played the past two seasons for the Portland Trail Blazers. He was originally selected by the Heat with the 19th overall pick in the 2004 draft and was part of the Heat's 2006 NBA championship team.

Wright on Tuesday said it was "awesome" to be back with the Heat.

"The energy I felt as soon as I walked back in the building was great," he said.

He is a career 36 percent shooter from 3-point range and led the NBA with 194 3-pointers made in 2010-11 when he played for the Golden State Warriors. He also has played with Philadelphia during his career.
