The 2020 NBA All-Star Game will tip off on Feb. 16 at the United Center in Chicago. This will be the third year in which captains will participate in a fantasy draft and select their own teams, compared to the traditional East vs. West format.
The NBA's midseason celebration comes with plenty of questions: Who will captains Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James pick first in the draft? How many first-time All-Stars will make the cut? Will commissioner Adam Silver open up legacy spots the way he did last season for Dwyane Wade and Dirk Nowitzki?

All-Star Game FAQs
How does the All-Star voting process work?
In 2016-17, current players and media joined the fans in the voting process. Fans account for 50% of the vote to determine the starters, while players and media account for 25% each. Once votes are tallied, players are ranked in each conference by position (guard and frontcourt) within each of the three voting groups.
Each player's score was calculated by averaging his weighted rank from the fans, players and media. The two guards and three frontcourt players with the best score in each conference were named starters. Fan votes served as the tiebreaker for players in a position group with the same score.
The seven reserves from each conference are selected by NBA head coaches. If there needs to be an injury replacement, that pick is determined by Silver.
How are captains and teams selected?
Instead of the traditional East vs. West format, the NBA moved to a new format in 2018, where two captains picked the teams from a pool of 24 players who were voted in by fans, media and players.
The captains were the All-Star starters who earn the most fan votes in their respective conferences. Alternating picks, the captains drafted the eight remaining players from the starter pool in the first round and then all 14 players from the reserve pool in the second round, making selections without regard to a player's conference affiliation or position.
How many All-Stars switched jerseys in the offseason?
LeBron James was not shy in recruiting stars to play with him in L.A. by picking players such as Anthony Davis, Kawhi Leonard and Kevin Durant onto Team LeBron. Davis eventually joined James on the Lakers via trade, and Leonard came to L.A. as well in free agency, but to join the Clippers instead. Durant took his talents across the country to join up with Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn.
In total, eight All-Stars were either traded or decided to sign with new teams in free agency.
