A 2017 second-pick by the Rockets out of Oregon, Brooks, 24, has blossomed in Memphis this season after an injury-shortened campaign in 2018-19. He has started all 51 games for the Grizzlies, a year after playing just 18, with no starts, due to a toe injury that required surgery. He also was plagued by a knee sprain last season.
Brooks and the Grizzlies played without forwards Jae Crowder and Solomon Hill in the win over Dallas. They learned before the game began of the trades that included Andre Iguodala, who hadn't played for Memphis since he was acquired from the Warriors last offseason.
None of that prevented the Grizzlies (26-25) from winning for the 13th time in 16 games to move over .500 for the first time this season.
Brooks was traded to Memphis by Houston at the NBA draft, on June 22, 2017, in exchange for a 2018 second-round pick. He signed his rookie deal with the Grizzlies a month later. In his rookie season, Brooks played in all 82 Grizzlies games, averaging 11 points and 3.1 rebounds.
