Longhorns take lead after second day of NCAA championships

Associated Press

ATHENS, Ga. -- Texas' Troy Dumais won his fourth consecutive 3-meter diving title Friday night as the Longhorns took a 15-point lead in the NCAA men's swimming and diving championship.

Dumais, who won the 1-meter springboard title Thursday, finished his college career undefeated at 3 meters and became the first diver ever to win an event four consecutive years.

Two-time defending champion Texas had 376 points. Stanford was second with 361, followed by Auburn (252.5), Southern California (193) and Florida (190).

Texas' Ian Crocker and Brendan Hansen defended their titles, with Crocker taking the 100-yard butterfly and Hansen winning the 100 breaststroke.

Crocker finished in 45.44 seconds, breaking the NCAA and U.S. open record of 45.59 set by Southern Methodist's Lars Frolander in 1998.

Southern California's Jeff Lee, Rodrigo Castro, Tamas Kerekjarto and Klete Keller won the 800 freestyle relay in 6:17.35, breaking Texas's year-old record of 6:18.00.

Peter Marshall anchored Stanford's winning 200 medley relay, finished second to Crocker in the butterfly and won the 100 backstroke in 45.91.

Southern Cal's Erik Vendt won the 400 individual medley in 3:40.65, and Florida's Adam Sioui took the 200 freestyle in 1:34.76.
