ALBANY, N.Y. – The 2001 Frozen Four all-tournament team was led by a freshman.

Boston College right wing Chuck Kobasew took home Most Outstanding Player honors after scoring a goal and recording an assist on the game-winner in the national championship game against North Dakota. Kobasew also scored a pair of goals in the 4-2 semifinal win over Michigan.

For the season, the Hockey East Rookie of the Year finished with 27 goals and 22 assists and a nation's best 10 game-winning goals.

Joining Kobasew on the all-tournament team were: Krys Kolanos, F, Boston College; Bryan Lundbohm, F, North Dakota; Travis Roche, D, North Dakota; Rob Scuderi, D, Boston College; and Scott Clemmensen, G, Boston College.

To the victors go the razors?
When Sam Gionta heads back to work at the hardware store he owns in suburban Rochester, N.Y., his employees may not recognize him. His family and friends might not recognize him either. As part of a prior agreement with his son, Brian, the Boston College hockey team got to shave Sam's beard off as a result of winning the national championship.

"Everyone got a chance to chip in there and get a little piece of it," Brian said. "I don't recognize him. I haven't seen him without a beard ever in my life. It was part of a deal and he came through with it."

Championship celebration
The Boston College hockey team will hold a public celebration Monday night at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Jerry York and his coaching staff, all of the players and the support staff will be on hand for the 5:30 p.m. ET event.

A Cloudy comparison
North Dakota trailed Boston College by two goals after two periods, tied the game with a last-minute goal, only to lose in overtime. The last time the Fighting Sioux trailed by more than one goal after two periods, they also scored a last-minute goal to send it to overtime and lost in the extra session.

Back on March 17, North Dakota was down 4-1 to St. Cloud State in the WCHA championship game, scored at 19:49 of the third to send it to overtime but lost 6-5 when Derek Eastman scored the game-winner at 11:33.

Statistically speaking
With Boston College ending its 52-year championship drought, the distinction of the longest title drought now falls to Colorado College. The Tigers last won a Division I hockey crown in 1957 ... With the victory, Clemmensen became the all-time wins leader in NCAA tournament play. He finished his career with a 10-3 record, which moved him past Michigan's Marty Turco (9-2) ... Clemmensen also added to his NCAA tournament career-saves record. With 34 in the title game, Clemmensen finished with 356 in his four appearances ... Wes Dorey's goal at 19:24 of the third period was the latest goal to force overtime in the history of the Division I championship game. The old record was held by Boston University's David Sacco, who scored at 19:21 of the third period in the 1991 title game. The Terriers went on to lose to Northern Michigan 8-7 in three overtimes.
