TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Tulsa basketball coach Bill Self said he was glad to have David Shelton on his side against Southwest Missouri State. ``This game just had no rhythm and I thought SMS did a nice job taking our crowd out of the game,'' Self said. ``But David made every play down the stretch. He's a warrior. He's not a jumper, but he gets every rebound in traffic.'' Shelton scored a career-high 22 points Tuesday night, nine in the final 4:30, as the Golden Hurricane remained unbeaten with a 69-60 victory. Shelton, a burly 6-foot-6 forward, scored 12 of Tulsa's final 20 points, eight of those from the free throw line and the other four on power moves inside. Shelton's performance helped Tulsa (7-0) prevail in a night of renewed acquaintances. Southwest Missouri is coached by Barry Hinson, who was the top assistant to Tulsa coach Bill Self when both were at Oral Roberts. Brandon Kurtz had 13 points and Eric Coley had 11 points, seven steals and five rebounds. Ron Bruton scored 18 for Southwest Missouri (4-3) and William Fontleroy added 13. Leading scorer Allen Phillips, averaging 14.2, was held without a field goal and scored just two points. Tulsa shot 47 percent for the game but outscored the Bears 19-9 from the free throw line. SMS trailed 41-40 before Tulsa's Greg Harrington drove for a layup with 13:36 remaining. Coley had a dunk and a layup in succession to give Tulsa a 50-44 advantage with 8:13 left and it was mostly Shelton's show after that.
