TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) _ Alabama players spent much of Wednesday
night standing 15 feet from the basket, draining free throw after
free throw. Mississippi coach Rod Barnes spent much of the night watching in frustration before being ejected. The 15th-ranked Crimson Tide hit 36 of 44 free throws and dominated much of the second half in an 82-63 victory over the 21st-ranked Rebels. "For us to beat a ranked team is something," Alabama coach Mark Gottfried said. "We won the game and didn't play particularly well, and that's encouraging. We really didn't get into a rhythm." Alabama (14-2, 3-1 Southeastern Conference) held the Rebels (14-3, 2-2) to 11 points over a 14-minute span of the second half and capitalized on 33 Ole Miss fouls. Barnes was ejected after picking up two quick technicals with 3:18 left. "We're not playing well enough right now to beat anybody," he said. "We can compete, though." Erwin Dudley was 14-of-17 from the free throw line and had 24 points and eight rebounds for Alabama, while point guard Tarik London was 6-of-8 from the line and had a career-high 18 points. Rod Grizzard, the league's leading scorer, was 11-of-12 from the line and scored 13 points and Doc Martin also scored 13 points, hitting three 3-pointers as Alabama remained unbeaten at home. "The whole game they were double-teaming Rod any time he touched it," London said. "I was just driving to the basket and penetrating." Rahim Lockhart had 17 points for the Rebels, while Aaron Harper added 12 and Justin Reed 10. Of his ejection, Barnes said, "I just decided it was time to go." "When I see my kids out there fighting, I'm going to fight for them," he said. "I'm not going to lie down." Gottfried said he wasn't surprised there were a lot of fouls. "Obviously I felt they were going to put their hands on us a lot," he said. "They do that a lot. Sometimes the theory is they're going to get tired of calling it." Mississippi tied the game at 44 early in the second half and trailed just 48-47 with 15:21 left in the game. The Rebels then went five minutes without scoring as Alabama picked up the tempo and the defensive intensity in a 19-4 run. Alabama scored 26 points off 16 turnovers. Mississippi, which came in giving up a league-low 62 points per game, was just 4-of-24 from 3-point range and shot 30 percent overall in the second half. Alabama has won 12 straight home games, the longest streak since winning 20 in a row in the 1994 and 1995 seasons. The Tide came in 0-2 against ranked teams. Mississippi has lot two straight since getting off to its best start in 75 years. "We gave them a lot of opportunities and they took advantage," Reed said. "We were just outworked."
