BOX SCORE
VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) -- After playing Duke at Cameron Indoor
Stadium, Boston College isn't fazed by any enemy crowd.
Troy Bell scored 28 points and Kenny Harley added a career-high
25 to lead Boston College (No. 25 ESPN/USA Today, No. 23 AP) to a 90-80 victory over Villanova
on Saturday.
The Eagles (14-2, 5-1 Big East) hadn't won at Villanova since
1993 and are 2-13 overall at The Pavilion.
"This is a situation we could've been rattled," said Ryan
Sidney, who scored a career-high 17 points. "After Duke, nothing
can bother us."
Michael Bradley had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Gary Buchanan
added 18 points for Villanova (12-6, 4-3).
The Wildcats, coming off a 70-59 victory over Connecticut
on Wednesday, have lost four of six.
"We're going through a tough stretch of the schedule and it
doesn't get easier," Villanova coach Steve Lappas said.
Boston College, off to its best start since opening the 1980-81
season 15-2, has won two straight and three of four. The Eagles
lost 97-75 at No. 2 Duke on Jan. 16.
"From here on the crowd can't affect our game," Harley said.
Villanova took its first lead, 42-40, on a 3-pointer by Jermaine
Medley just 1:19 into the second half.
After Harley gave the Eagles a 53-47 lead on two free throws,
Medley took over, sparking a 15-4 run. He scored nine points during
the spurt -- all on three-pointers.
Medley capped the run with consecutive 3-pointers that made it
62-57 with 11:52 left in the game.
But Boston College answered by scoring 10 straight and 17 of the
next 19 points. Sidney's layup gave the Eagles the lead for good,
64-62, with 9:33 left. He had seven points during the run,
including a 3-pointer.
Bell nailed a 3-pointer, then made two free throws to make it
74-64 with 5:21 left. Villanova didn't get closer than eight the
rest of the way.
"We're all mature now, we know our roles, what we're supposed
to do," Bell said. "This was a very big win for us."
Before hitting four straight 3s, Medley was 0-for-3 from beyond
the arc in the first half and 0-for-10 the previous two games. He
had 17 points and was 5-for-13 from 3-point range.
Boston College took its biggest lead of the first half, 30-18,
after a 15-4 run capped by an off-balance 3 by Harley.
Villanova went 6:35 without a field goal before Buchanan hit a
3-pointer with 5:53 left in the first half. The Wildcats had missed
16 straight from beyond the arc over the last two games.
Buchanan's 3-pointer ignited a 13-3 run as Villanova got back in
the game. He hit a long 3 at the end of the first half to cut the
deficit to 40-39.
"When we have those runs in this building, it usually leads to
good things," Lappas said.
Boston College's six-game losing streak at Villanova included
two overtime losses (1994 and 1998).
"We haven't had much success here, but we've played good games
here so the guys were confident," Boston College coach Al Skinner
said. "They really felt they had a chance to win. It was real
important for us."
Buchanan made all six of his free throws and has made 59
straight.
