ST. LOUIS (AP) _ Joe Breakenridge scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead No. 10 seed Northern Iowa to a 59-53 win over Drake Friday night in the first round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

Aaron Middendorf added 15 points for Northern Iowa (7-23), the lowest seed, as the Panthers snapped a five-game losing streak. Luke McDonald led Drake (12-16) with 16 points.

The Panthers will meet No. 2 seed Bradley in a quarterfinal game on Saturday.

Northern Iowa was a perfect 6-for-6 from behind the 3-point line in the first half, taking a 34-30 halftime lead. It was only the sixth halftime lead this season for the Panthers.

A steal and lay-up by Andry Sola with 12:49 left put Drake up 40-38, giving the Bulldogs their first lead since it was 2-0.

Martin Coon put the Panthers back in control by scoring eight points during an 11-2 run to give the Panthers a 53-45 lead with 3:18 left.

Drake closed to within two points at 55-53, but Breakenridge hit four straight free throws down the stretch to secure the win.
