RECAP | BOX SCORE

FAIRBORN, Ohio (AP) _ LaVall Jordan scored 17 points, including seven during the burst that rallied Butler to the lead early in the second half, and top-seeded Butler went on to beat host Wright State in the semifinals of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference tournament Sunday.

Butler will play Detroit in the championship game Tuesday night.

Joel Cornette added 16 points, and Thomas Jackson 11 _ all in the second half _ for Butler (22-7).

Kevin Melson had 16 and Jesse Deister 12 for Wright State (18-11).

Wright State led 30-26 at halftime, but Jordan led a 16-9 run to start the second half, and never trailed again. The Bulldogs extended the lead to eight points with 6:04 to play, but Wright State closed to within 58-56 on a layup and free throw by Melson with 2:17 left.

A layup by Jackson, a pair of free throws by Jordan and a layup by Cornette rebuilt the Butler lead to eight, and Wright State was unable to respond.

Wright State had a 34-25 edge in rebounds, but had 25 turnovers. Both teams shot 45 percent from the field.
