The lowdown
2000-01 record: 25-8; 10-6 in Big East (t2nd in West)
Final Ranking: No. 17 ESPN/USA Today; No. 21 AP
Postseason: Lost to Maryland in third round of NCAA Tournament.

Three Questions for 2001-02
1. Will the Hoyas miss Ruben Boumtje-Boumtje's leadership and defensive presence? Lee Scruggs was an erratic fixture and probably won't be missed as much as Boumtje-Boumtje.

2. Can Wesley Wilson continue to improve and become a 1-2 punch with Michael Sweetney inside. If Wilson lives up to his pre-college billing then the Hoyas could have the best inside game in the league.

3. Can Kevin Braswell improve his 3-point shooting? The Hoyas went through stretches where they struggled to make shots last season.

Three Key Facts
1. The Hoyas return two starters off last year's squad, including Michael Sweetney, a honorable mention All-Big East team member and first-ream All-Rookie Team player, led the Hoyas in both scoring and rebounding as a freshman.

2. Kevin Braswell is the Hoyas' all-time leader in steals with 268 and is fifth on the school's assists list. His backcourt running mate, Demetrius Hunter led the team in 3-point shooting last year, scoring 9.2 points per game. But Hunter shocked the Hoyas during the summer by transferring to UNLV.

3. Georgetown won its first 16 games of the 2000-01 season -- its longest such streak since 1984 -- and reached the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1996.

Andy Katz's Scenarios
Best case: The Hoyas are the team to beat in the Big East, claim the title, and return to the Sweet 16.

Worst case: Shooting goes awry and the Hoyas drop to being the fourth-best team in the league.
