Possibly the most exciting player in the Class of 2002, Anthony quickly raced up the rankings to become one of the elite prospects. After earning Baltimore City Player of the Year honors in his junior season at Towson Catholic, Carmelo transferred to Oak Hill to play one of the nation's most rigorous schedules. He participated in the prestigious USA Basketball Olympic Festival during the summer. Despite grueling travel all over the country, he earned MVP honors at both the Les Schwab Invitational (Portland, OR) and the Primetime Shootout (Trenton NJ). He also helped the Warriors to an upset over No. 1 Westchester in the National Academy Invitational in Houston, TX. Carmelo is one of 10 finalists of the Naismith Award on April 5. At 6-7, he not only led his loaded team in scoring, but also three-point shooting by hitting nearly 45 percent of his attempts. "Carmelo could be the best offensive player in the class of 2002," says Mike Sullivan of The Sporting News. "He can take the ball to the basket against the big people inside and score and he can drain it from the three-point line." Carmelo will head north to play at Syracuse next year. Back to boys roster. |
