As one of the premier big men in the class of 2002, Michael did not have to wait long to figure out his college plans, committing to Duke during his junior year. Before his senior season even began, he was already a two-time all-conference selection, a second team all-state selection, special honorable mention for Illinois Mr. Basketball and a member of almost every major preseason All-America team. He also participated on the gold medal team at the prestigious USA Basketball Olympic Festival last summer. At Providence Catholic, where he is the captain of the team, he led his teammates in scoring, rebounding, blocks and field goal percentage since his sophomore season and is a leader off the court by volunteering for various orientation programs. Michael is one of four Duke recruits in this year's McDonald's All American Game.
